Minecraft community or disputes that moderate and develop means handling broad spectrum of behavior, from trolling and sadness to exploitation efforts.

You don’t have to get every perfect category. The most important thing is your team:

  • Identification of behaviors that violate your community guidelines
  • Apply the most suitable category for this violation and act in a proportional and consistent way

If something falls between two categories, align internally and try to consistency in the way you handle similar cases all the time.

11 examples of violations and categories of each

Before we dive, we believe that Minecraft and disputes are strong platforms for community connections, creativity, and development. 3. Treatment of younger players through DMS

  • Platform: Dispute (linked to Minecraft)
  • Scenario: Adults build trust with younger players and encourage personal and secret communication through DMS Discord, Telegram, Instagram, WhatsApp, or other private message platforms.
  • Category: Sexual children Abuse and/or Exploitation

4. Doxing Player’s IP Address

  • Platform: Dispute
  • Scenario: Users post someone’s IP address and city name publicly.
  • Category: Exposing Personal Information (Doxing)

5. Post Gore Pictures

  • Platform: Dispute
  • Scenario: Users upload graphic accident images for shock value.
  • Category: Explicit content (porn, gore, etc.)

6. Post extremist propaganda

  • Platform: Minecraft or dispute
  • Scenario: A player shares a link that glorifies terrorist actions.
  • Category: Extremism

7. Fake Giveaway Fraud

  • Platform: Dispute
  • Scenario: Users disguised themselves as staff and send Nitro’s “prize” links.
  • Category: Fraud and fraud

8. Fly in survival mode

  • Platform: Minecraft
  • Scenario: A player is caught using the hacked one Client to fly and kill others unfairly
  • Category: Hacking

9. Personal harassment of voting chat

  • Platform: Dispute
  • Scenario: Users target others repeatedly in voice chat with insult and threats.
  • Category: Abuse

10. Mass lag exploit on spawn

  • Platform: Minecraft
  • Scenario: Players cause Lon Silence using hundreds of items dropped on SPAWN.
  • Category: Harm the server

  • Scenario: A user tells others to commit suicide after a heated discussion.
  • Category: Danger promotion

Take action

Your team must work together to define clear guidelines on how to respond to various types of violations, from less to more severe, in a consistent, fair, and in harmony with the values of your community.

After you identify and categorize violations, the next step is to decide how to respond. This may include:

  • Entering or warning users
  • Delete disturbing or dangerous content
  • Apply a temporary or permanent prohibition
  • Improve reports for further review or external action

Important: If you find severe or sensitive content such as the exploitation and sexual harassment of children online (Ocsea) or CSAM, do not save, move forward, or investigate yourself. You can use the free tool provided by Defendernet (GS BANS plugin and GS Borendender Bot) to apply the appropriate category of violations. However, do not save personal information or personal communication related to the incident.

Reports directly use the official Discord or Minecraft reporting mechanism, or to the appropriate national hotline:

  • In the US, report via NCMEC Cybertipline.

  • Use internal notes for the edge case
  • Discuss the ambiguous or recurrent categories as a team
  • Regularly review the sample of new moderation action (for example, the last 10 cases that you or your team handled this month) to find inconsistency, bias, or pattern.
  • Avoid using the category of “other” unless truly needed and always include a brief explanation when you do it.
